As many children of his generation, Bernard Biales began collecting philately as a kid, including some covers. As a young man in 1976, he returned to collecting and soon became interested in early US covers, including 18th century material. Bernard learned a lot from Calvet Hahn.

A prolific exhibitor; Bernard has curated many specialized exhibits over the years, such as: “Deliberate Partial Markings”, “1775-6 (APS History Award)”, “1869 First Day Cover”, “War of 1812 Ocean Mails”, “US carrying British packet letters 1793-5”, “Overview of Revolutionary War”, “New York in the Revolution”, “Stampless Fancy Manuscripts”, “Stamped Fancy Manuscripts” and “Special Handling of British Packet Letters by US 1843 to 1849”.

Bernard has written and published articles on, “The Pearson Hill Mechanical at Washington”, “1847 pre-cancels”, and a few other topics. He is currently working on 1775-related articles at the moment. He is the Former President of the Philatelic Group of Boston.
