This mourning cover to France dated Sep 30, 1874, is not particularly valuable. But it highlights perfectly the facets which make New York City Foreign Mail such an attractive collecting genre.
Primarily, it shows a perfectly struck NYCFM geometric cancel, alongside an equally well struck red New York Exchange Office datestamp and a blue French entry postmark together with a boxed `PD` (Paid to Destination) handstamp.
